Local Heroes: Father-Son Duo Support Cook Children's Endocrinology with $20,000 Donation

This Thanksgiving season, Cook Children’s - Prosper is overflowing with gratitude, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Chris and Sam Davis, the inspiring duo behind Sam’s Search for a Cure. These local heroes, who also serve their communities as members of the Prosper and Aubrey fire departments, have made a significant impact on the lives of young patients by donating a remarkable $20,000 to the Cook Children’s - Prosper Endocrinology department.

Sam’s Search for a Cure, a nonprofit organization founded by Chris and Sam, was established to support children battling Type 1 diabetes. Sam was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 5 years old. Their unwavering dedication to improving the lives of these young patients is truly commendable. 

Chris said it was life-changing as parents to help Sam upgrade to a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) which always tracks blood sugar levels, compared to traditional methods, like a finger prick. Their donation will help other families receive these supplies to aid in their diabetes care.

“We thought there were families out there who could now get those tools like CGM and pumps that were life-changing for us,” Chris said. “From a parent standpoint, the CGM itself was totally revolutionary for us to go to sleep at night.” 

As firefighters and paramedics, they transport children to Cook Children’s - Prosper and want to make a difference for patients.

“It’s close to home and people we see all the time,” Davis said. “Maybe not on the specialty side, but on the ER. It brings it all together and it’s a community that we already service so now we’re able to service it on a different level.”

Generosity expresses itself in many ways at Cook Children’s, a not-for-profit organization. From life-saving research, the latest technology, or a furry friend on a hard day for our young patients, we can say with certainty that generosity heals. This generous donation creates the healing and moments of magic that make Cook Children’s so special.
