CBS 11: Texas Legislature to decide Cook Children's Health Plan fate, impacting thousands
The Texas Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) has denied Cook Children's Health Plan (CCHP) a contract and awarded the contract to several out-of-state, for-profit insurance companies. This decision by the HHSC puts 1.8 million children and pregnant women across the state at risk of losing their trusted health care providers, including 125,000 local North Texas families.
This is a time-sensitive issue. The Texas legislature must act before June 2, 2025, to prevent this Medicaid upheaval, which threatens to disrupt access to care for vulnerable families and destabilize the community’s health care system.
Cook Children's Health Plan President Karen Love and member Liz Piñon spoke with CBS 11 to share the real impact this decision will have on children’s access to non-profit health care coverage.
