Update for Our Network Providers and Clinicians: Protecting Children on Medicaid and CHIP - A Follow-Up

A message from Karen Love, President, Cook Children's Health Plan

Karen Love FinalDear Valued Cook Children’s Health Plan Provider,

As a follow-up to our communication in the spring, we are writing to provide you with the latest information regarding the ongoing fight to protect Cook Children's Health Plan (CCHP) from exclusion from the STAR and CHIP managed care programs.

Key Updates:

  1. Ongoing Legal Battle: We continue to actively pursue legal remedies to overturn this harmful decision.
  2. Community Support: We are grateful for the overwhelming support from our community, including patients, families, and health care providers like you. We are continuing to share patient and member stories through the media and on social media to raise awareness of the problem, and our public relations efforts will continue until this issue is resolved.
  3. Legislative Efforts: We are working closely with legislators to advocate for policies that prioritize the health and well-being of children. We have several champions who will be taking this issue to the next Legislative Session in Austin in January, 2025.

Remember:

  1. Continuity of Care: Your patients can continue receiving care from you and other CCHP network providers until further notice. Talking points to use with Health Plan members and your patients can be found on this page SaveCookChildrensHealthPlan.com, under the green button near the bottom of the page.
  2. Your Voice Matters: We encourage you to reach out to your elected officials or representatives from Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) or the Governor’s office to express your support for CCHP and the importance of access to quality health care for children and a meaningful choice of plans for Medicaid and CHIP families.
