Dallas Morning News: ‘This is preventable’: What a Cook Children’s doctor wants us to know about measles

Suzanne Whitworth, M.D., division chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Cook Children’s, spoke with the Dallas Morning News to discuss how Cook Children’s will be ready if measles spreads to North Texas.

Cook Children’s has six negative-pressure rooms to care for children with the virus. Rooms have space for family members and specialized air ventilation systems that pull air inward, preventing recirculation.

Dr. Whitworth hopes the rooms will not be needed.

“If everyone gets vaccinated, we won’t have this crisis,” Dr. Whitworth said. “This is preventable.”
