Black History Month: Cook Children's Prosper Specialists Share Their Experiences

We're proud to have five Black specialists, out of 14 currently practicing at Cook Children's Pediatrics Specialties Prosper.

Summary

The theme for Black History Month 2022 focuses on the importance of African American health and wellness and acknowledges the legacy of Black scholars, medical practitioners and health care workers.

The Association of American Medical Colleges reports that around 5% of active physicians in the U.S. are Black or African American. There are several causing factors to a lack of diversity within the medical field, including inequities in education, household income, community resources and many other barriers and challenges.

Although the national rate is so low, we're proud to have five Black specialists, out of 14 currently practicing at Cook Children's Pediatrics Specialties Prosper.

As we celebrate Black History Month this February, doctors Tony Anani, Kanika Bowen-Jallow, Brittney Pryor Craig, Danielle Moyé and Damian Campbell recently sat down to share their individual stories and unique journeys to get to where they are at now.
