Neurosciences team featured in the Wall Street Journal
The Cook Children’s Neurosciences team earned national attention from the Wall Street Journal as the first to combine a pediatric laser ablation procedure with a neuro-intervention system. This advanced technology allows the neurosurgeon to have real-time guidance during the procedure.
The procedure marks a milestone for the patients treated at Cook Children’s. Now minimally invasive neurosurgery can be performed to destroy abnormal brain tissue with a laser. The surgeon uses the iMRI to see what’s going on at that exact moment during the brain surgery and identify where the critical, functioning parts of the brain are so he can avoid them while lasering the abnormal tissue. Most patients go home within 24 hours and with only one stitch.
