Balancing Medicine and Therapy: Cook Children’s Pain Management Improves Patients’ Quality of Life

Pain is a complicated, often debilitating feeling that can have a major impact on a child’s physical and mental well-being. The Cook Children’s Pain Management Program offers a comprehensive range of services for patients suffering from acute or chronic pain.

Our multi-disciplinary pain management team cares for children on an inpatient and outpatient basis, helping them return to independence and comfort. Many children are referred to the pain management team by their doctor during a hospitalization or by their primary doctor or specialist.

In both settings, the pain management team is committed to improving patients’ quality of life by offering them the tools to manage and overcome their pain. They provide treatment options tailored to meet the patients’ goals, such as medication management, interventional pain procedures, physical therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, relaxation therapy, guided imagery, aromatherapy, medical acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga therapy and more. The team also provides education on how to manage pain through lifestyle modifications like paced physical activity, diet and improved sleep hygiene.
